The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) program works to improve forest management across North America. In 2022, we at Skeena Sawmills renewed our certification for the SFI® 2022 SFM and FS standards. (See the SFI certification document here.)
SFI-Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) 2022 Standard
The Sustainable Forest Management standard ensures compliance with sustainable forest management practices through stringent standards that keep forests intact and thriving including:
• Water Quality
• Wildlife Habitats
• Species at Risk
• Forests with Exceptional Conservation Value
• Societal Values (Including Indigenous Peoples’ Rights)
SFI- Fiber Sourcing (FS) 2022 Standard
The Fiber Sourcing Standard ensures that fiber purchased from other sources was produced through sustainable forest management practices and was acquired by utilizing the services of both harvesting and forest management professionals.
Skeena’s manufacturing plants and forest products are certified by the PEFC Chain of Custody certification. This standard ensures that the raw material used in our products can be traced back to legal and socially acceptable sources. This allows us to give our customers confidence to rely on the sustainability of the products they purchase from us.
In 2022, Skeena Bioenergy became certified through the Sustainable Biomass Certification Program (SBP). The SBP is a certification system designed to encourage sustainable uses for woody biomass — usually in the form of wood pellets and wood chips — like those used in industrial, large-scale energy production.
In 2022, Skeena Bioenergy achieved certification to the Sustainable Biomass Certification Program.
